Peter J. Strauss is a member of the firm Epstein, Becker and Green, P.C. in the New York office, and heads the firm’s Personal Planning Group. Mr. Strauss has practiced trusts and estates law since 1961, and has special expertise in the legal problems of the aging. He was one of the first attorneys in the country to focus on what is now known as Elder Law. Mr. Strauss’s experience includes representation of clients in cases which resulted in changes in law benefiting seniors and persons with disabilities, working with clients to develop sophisticated estate plans, pioneering work in the development of the field of Elder Law and founding of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers.
Mr. Strauss is a frequent lecturer on advance planning for older persons and persons with disabilities. He is co-author of Aging and the Law, a treatise for professionals published by Commerce Clearing House and the Elder Law Handbook – A Legal and Financial Survival Guide for Caregivers and Seniors (Facts-on-File, Inc.). Mr. Strauss also writes a “Law and Aging” column for the New York Law Journal. Mr. Strauss is an adjunct professor at New York Law, where he teaches the Elder Law course. He was one of the first four lawyers to be elected as a Fellow of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.
